MBET began in 1999 as an abalone farm in central Baja. In 2001 it brought on twelve UCLA marine biology graduate students to go through the published research on ocean compounds. Settling on the final species took more than a decade.

Is Natural Marine Extract™ the same as seaweed or algae skincare?
No. Natural Marine Extract™ is a patented blend of fourteen food-grade marine species. MBET grows every one of them at its own facility in Baja and blends them itself, and US Patent 10,772,825 covers that specific formula.
Is it a medicine?
No. Natural Marine Extract™ is a cosmetic ingredient covered by US Patent 10,772,825. You use it on your skin at home, twice a day, with no prescription and no downtime.
Has it been studied?
Yes. In a four-month study, 283 people aged 14 to 101 used a 2% Natural Marine Extract™ lotion on one side of the face and body and the same lotion without the extract on the other. Each month the person, a nurse and a doctor rated the treated side.

Which product should I start with?

Should I choose Aloe Vera Gel or Almond Oil?
The Aloe Vera Gel is lighter and sinks in quickly, so it suits normal to oily skin. The Almond Oil is richer, for dry skin.
Both carry the same Natural Marine Extract™. For very dry or sun-weathered skin, use both: the gel first, then the oil, massaged in well.
Is it suitable for sensitive skin?
It's formulated to be gentle, and it's used by people who describe their skin as sensitive. If your skin reacts easily, choose the Natural Marine scent, which has no added essential oil and is available by special order, and patch test a small area first.
How do I use it?
Twice a day on clean, dry, intact skin. A thin layer is plenty. Never put it on open wounds or broken skin.
How long does one bottle last?
About 90 days at twice a day, depending on how much skin you're covering.
Who shouldn't use it?
Natural Marine Extract™ comes from marine species, including shellfish, so please don't use it if you have a seafood allergy. Fourteen people in our 283-person study did have one, and none of them had a reaction, but we'd rather you didn't take the chance. The almond oil version contains a tree nut. If you're on immunosuppressive therapy, ask your physician before using it. It hasn't been tested during pregnancy or breastfeeding, so we ask that you don't use it then.
Which scent should I pick?
The scent only changes how it smells. The extract is the same in all of them. Ocean Breeze is our own blend of lavender, grapefruit and vetiver. Lavender is soft and familiar, Lemon is bright citrus, and Peppermint feels cool going on. Natural Marine, available by special order, has no added essential oil, so you'll smell the extract itself, which is a lot stronger.
The essential-oil versions are for external use only. Keep them away from your eyes.
Can I use it with retinol, acids, or after a professional treatment?
Yes. It's gentle and layers easily with most routines. Put it on after any active treatment, on clean skin. If you've had a professional procedure, follow your practitioner's aftercare first, since they know exactly what was done.
