Why skin thins
Skin starts losing collagen in your twenties.
Deep in the dermis, cells called fibroblasts build the collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid that keep skin firm, springy and full. With age they slow down, and there are fewer of them. You won't see it at thirty. You will at fifty.
Skin collagen lost with age · after 50, shown for womenChoose an age
Drawn from published rates: about 1% of skin collagen a year through adult life (Shuster, 1975); up to 30% in the five years after menopause, then about 2% a year (Calleja-Agius, Muscat-Baron and Brincat, 2007). Full references at the foot of the page.

Skin is near its fullest in your twenties. A capsule a week supports the skin you have, and a 90-capsule bottle lasts about 21 months.

of skin collagen can go in the five years after menopause
Then about 2% a year; for men, the loss stays closer to 1%. Less collagen, fewer working cells and more fragile blood vessels are why older skin bruises and tears so easily.

How the capsules work
Skin is fed from below.
Capillaries in the dermis carry nourishment up to the fibroblasts that build your skin. Dr. Lewis's idea was to reach those cells from the inside, by that same route.*
01
Everywhere at onceSupport for the skin nobody moisturizes: the back of the neck, the shins, the tops of the arms.
02
Made to pairUse the oil or gel where you look first, and let the capsule cover the rest. Many of Dr. Lewis's patients use both.
03
Dosed by decadeOne capsule a week in your twenties, one a day from fifty, and two at a time when you want added support.
The extract, under the microscope.
These results come from the topical. In a four-month study of 283 dermatology patients, this 60-year-old used a plain lotion on one side and the same lotion with 2% Natural Marine Extract™ on the other, 46 applications in all.

In this biopsy Tap a number
Blood vessels. Each gold ring marks a capillary, the vessels that feed the cells above them. The lotion-only slide shows one. The extract slide shows thirteen.
Fibroblasts. Each gold dot marks a fibroblast, one of the small dark-blue cells under the surface layer that make collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid. The lotion-only slide has a handful. The extract slide is crowded with them.
Building blocks. Collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid make up most of the tissue. The gold marker runs from its top to its base: the tissue on the extract side goes about three and a half times as deep.
And the capsules? They haven't been studied this way. They're designed to bring the same extract to your skin from the inside out.*

…the only active ingredient that we know of that stimulates fibrocytes [fibroblasts] to reproduce.

Why it costs what it costs
Not another collagen gummy.
A collagen gummy asks for a few every day, at any age. These capsules are dosed to how much skin loses at each age, so one bottle can last for months. At 25, a 30-capsule bottle lasts about seven months.

What it does
Designed to help your fibroblasts make their own collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid*
Commodity collagen, usually from cattle or fish skin
What’s inside
Fourteen marine species in one patented extract, the same one in our skin formulas
A scoop or a few gummies every day, at every age
How much
As little as one capsule a week, dosed to your age
Often bought in bulk from a supplier catalog

Grown or sourced by MBET
Rarely a physician
Who made it
A practicing Beverly Hills dermatologist with expertise in marine biology
Dr. Lewis on collagen supplements
“When you digest collagen, your gut breaks it down into amino acids, and those amino acids go through the body to make whatever proteins it needs. So there’s rarely a link between swallowing collagen and better skin.”
Eric Lewis, MD
A 2025 review of 23 trials points the same way. The benefits showed up only in industry-funded or lower-quality studies; the independent, high-quality trials found no significant effect on skin.‡
What a capsule is designed to do
Instead of supplying collagen, the extract is designed to support the cells that make yours.*
01
In the stomach
Swallowed.
The capsule opens in your stomach and releases the extract.
02
Through the gut wall
Absorbed.
Dr. Lewis designed its smallest molecules, the peptides, sea sugars and pigments, to pass through the gut wall into your blood.
03
In the bloodstream
Carried.
Your blood takes them to the capillaries in the dermis, the same route that feeds your fibroblasts.
04
In the dermis
Put to work.
There, the extract is meant to support the fibroblasts that make collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid.*
05
Across your skin
A season later.
Skin rebuilds slowly, so give it a full season before you judge.

Proven in practice
Patients trusted it long before it was online.
For years, Miracle of the Sea was sold mostly in person at Dr. Lewis's Beverly Hills practice, by the doctor who would see your skin again at the next appointment. Patients don't reorder from their dermatologist to be polite.

If Ponce de León had found the Fountain of Youth, what might the water have contained?
Collagen, peptides, sea sugars and marine pigments, kept together in one extract as they occur in the species themselves. Each one is raised in carefully managed seawater at MBET's facility, and the proportions are Dr. Lewis's own formula.

Abalone
Haliotis fulgens
Haliotis rufescens
The founding species.
In a lab study, a small-peptide extract of abalone collagen strengthened the stem-cell qualities of human skin cells, the kind that renew the surface.†1
No. 02 · 4 species
Sea cucumbers
Holothuria cinerascens
Holothuria mexicana
Holothuria scabra
Stichopus chloronotus
Built of collagen.
Collagen makes up most of the protein in a sea cucumber’s body wall, one reason it has been prized across Asia for centuries. In an animal study, a sea cucumber collagen cream applied to the skin of aging mice left thicker, more orderly bundles of collagen and elastic fibers.†2

Urchins & scallop
Strongylocentrotus franciscanus
Strongylocentrotus purpuratus
Chlamys rubida
Pigments with a purpose.
Urchins get their deep purples from pigments called spinochromes. In lab tests, two of them outperformed a standard reference antioxidant.†3 Peptides from a relative of the pink scallop helped human skin cells hold up under UVB light.†4

Spirulina & algae
Spirulina pacifica
Arthrospira platensis
Blue-green algae
The blue in blue-green.
Spirulina’s pigment, phycocyanin, was tested on human skin cells exposed to UVB. It cut free radicals by about half and lowered two collagen-degrading enzymes by roughly three quarters.†5

Kelp
Macrocystis integrifolia
Ascophyllum nodosum
Made for surf and sun.
Brown seaweeds make fucoidan, a sea sugar. In lab tests on human skin tissue, it protected elastic fibers from the enzymes that break them down.†6 Knotted wrack adds phlorotannins, polyphenols it produces to weather strong light.

The 30-day money-back guarantee applies to your first order of one 30-capsule bottle, not to a topical added to that order. Other sizes are covered by our standard return policy.
It goes by age: one a week under 30, two a week in your 30s, three a week in your 40s, and one a day from 50 on. For added support, take two capsules each time instead of one. After 50, you can take up to four a day, depending on need.
02When should I take them?
Whenever suits you. Most people take them with a meal, though they shouldn’t upset an empty stomach either. On two a day, take the second with dinner or right before bed.
03How soon will I notice a difference?
Give it a season, about three months. Skin renews slowly, so look for change from month to month, not day to day.
04What if I’m also using the oil or gel?
Use both. The capsules and your topicals are made to work together: the oil or gel works where you apply it, and the capsules reach your skin everywhere else, from the inside. If you want added support, choose it in the dose finder: you take two capsules each time instead of one.
The formula
05What’s in each capsule?
400mg of Natural Marine Extract™: the fourteen species shown above, the same complex found in our oil and gel, and nothing else. The capsule itself is made of gelatin and water.
06Have the capsules been studied?
The capsule hasn’t had a clinical trial of its own. The extract inside it was studied for four months in 283 dermatology patients, applied to skin, and has been used on more than 650 people with no allergic reactions or other adverse events recorded. More than 500 people have taken the capsules themselves, some for over six years.
07Will they interact with my medications?
We have no reports of interactions with medications or other supplements. Don’t take them if you’re on immunosuppressive medication, and if you take any other prescription medication, check with your physician before you start.
Before you start
08I have a seafood allergy. Can I take them?
No allergic reactions have been recorded, including among 14 participants with known seafood allergies in our four-month study. Even so, we don’t recommend the capsules for anyone with a known seafood allergy.
09Is it safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
No. They haven’t been tested in pregnancy or breastfeeding, so don’t take them while pregnant or nursing.
10How does the subscription work?
It’s optional: you can always buy one bottle at a time. If you subscribe, you save 15%, and each bottle is charged and shipped on your dose’s schedule. One a day on a 30-capsule bottle, for example, is $119 every month. It renews until you cancel, with no minimum number of orders. Cancel online from your account anytime, effective immediately, in as few clicks as it took to sign up. Full subscription terms
