FAQ

About Natural Marine Extract

What Is Natural Marine Extract?

Natural Marine Extract is a patented cosmetic ingredient derived from marine organisms, developed by Beverly Hills dermatologist Dr. Eric Lewis and protected under US Patent10,772,825. It appears across the Miracle of the Sea range in different carriers, an aloe vera gel, an almond oil, a lip balm, because the carrier changes how it feels and absorbs, not what it is.

Most skincare is built around an ingredient that arrived recently and will be replaced by the next one. This one came out of decades of marine research and a dermatologist’s long curiosity about what skin actually needs.

What Does Natural Marine Extract Do for Skin?

Natural Marine Extract is used in cosmetic formulations to moisturise, soften and improve the look and feel of skin, including the appearance of dry, crepey texture, uneven tone, and marks left behind after breakouts.

It is a cosmetic ingredient. It is not a medicine, and we don’t describe it as one. There are things the underlying research suggests that we are not permitted to claim, and we would rather be the brand that stays on the right side of that line than the one that winks at it.

Is Natural Marine Extract the Same as Seaweed or Algae Skincare?

No, Natural Marine Extract is a specific patented composition developed from marine organisms over decades of research, not a generic seaweed or algae extract. Marine skincare is a crowded category and most of it is neither proprietary nor patented.

Why Does the Same Extract Appear in So Many Products?

Because the extract is the point and the carrier is the delivery. An aloe gel suits most skin and absorbs cleanly. An almond oil suits drier skin and sits richer. A lip balm goes where a gel won’t stay. Same material, different vehicle for different skin and different places on the body.

Choosing and Using the Products

Should I Use the Aloe Vera Gel or the Almond Oil?

Choose the Aloe Vera Gel if your skin is normal to oily, or if you want something lighter that absorbs quickly. Choose the Almond Oil if your skin is dry and wants something richer.

Both carry the same Natural Marine Extract. They can also be layered, apply the Aloe Vera Gel first, then the Almond Oil to seal it in.

Please note the Almond Oil contains almond, a tree nut.

How Do I Use It, and How Often?

Apply to clean, dry, intact skin twice daily, morning and evening. A few drops is enough, this is a concentrated formulation and using more will not make it work better, it will simply finish the bottle sooner.

Use on healthy, unbroken skin only. Not for use on open wounds, cuts or broken skin.

How Long Does One Bottle Last?

Roughly ninety days with twice-daily use, depending on how much area you’re covering. Most people are surprised by how little they need. That’s a season of your life in one bottle. It’s a more useful way to think about the price than the number on the label.

Which Essential Oil Should I Choose?

Each option changes the scent and the sensory experience, not the Natural Marine Extract inside.

• Natural Marine, no added essential oil, the extract’s own scent

• Ocean Breeze, our proprietary blend of lavender, grapefruit and vetiver

• Lavender, soft, calming, the most familiar

• Lemon or Grapefruit, bright and citrus

• Peppermint, cool and invigorating on application

Products with essential oils are for external use only. Take care near the eyes. A version without essential oil can be requested, though we don’t recommend it, the Natural Marine scent is noticeably stronger without one, and there is no price reduction.

Can I Use It With Retinol, Acids or After a Professional Treatment?

Yes, it is formulated to be gentle and layers comfortably with most routines. Apply it after any active treatment, on clean skin.

If you’ve had a professional procedure, follow your practitioner’s aftercare instructions first. They know your skin and the specifics of what was done.

Is It Suitable for Sensitive Skin?

The formulations are designed to be gentle, and are used by people who describe their skin as sensitive. As with any new skincare, patch test on a small area first if you know your skin reacts easily.

About the Brand

Who Created Miracle of the Sea?

Miracle of the Sea was created by Dr. Eric Lewis, a Beverly Hills dermatologist who earned his MD from UCLA in 1976 and has practised dermatology and cosmetic surgery for more than forty years. He is the named inventor on US Patent 10,772,825 for the marine extract compositions used across the range.

The company is Marine Biology and Environmental Technologies (MBET), which has researched marine compounds for their cosmetic potential since the late 1990s.

Is Miracle of the Sea a Medical or Clinical Product?

No, Miracle of the Sea products are cosmetics. They are formulated to moisturise, soften and improve the appearance and feel of skin. They are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

We are deliberate about this. A dermatologist founder makes it tempting to imply more, and we would rather explain what these products are than blur the line.

Are the Products Suitable for All Genders?

Yes, and roughly half our customers are men, unusual in this category. The products are formulated for skin, not for a demographic.

Where Are the Products Made?

Hand-crafted in Los Angeles.
